Monument to the Liberation

Name: Monument to the Liberation
Category: Archaeological and historical sites
Location: 1118 Budapest, Citadella sétány

Description

A colossal monument like the ones you find in several central European countries, built in 1947 in memory of the liberation of the city by the soldiers of the Red Army. On a base made of limestone, a woman (14 m high), in a very dignified stance, holds at the end of her arms above her head a palm leaf that she seems to offer up to heaven. From the terrace there is a fine view over the river, Buda and Pest. On the right, a view from above over the Gellért hotel and baths complex.
