Name: Király Baths
Category: Architecture, castles and historic districts
Location: 1027 Budapest, Fő utca 84.
Description
Finished by Mustapha Sokoli in 1566, these baths are one of the oldest establishments, dating back to the Turkish occupation. They are recognisable by their domes, the largest topped by the Turkish Crescent. The octagonal pool covered by a large dome is surrounded by blind arches. A beautiful example of Ottoman architecture! The name Király (king) has nothing to do with royalty. It is the Hungarian version of the German name König, the family that owned the baths at the end of the 18th century.
